Congratulations and welcome!
You have successfully registered for the 21st Century Learning Institute sponsored by the Oracle Education Foundation! You are joining a team of 57 registrants from 10 countries as you participate in this innovative professional development experience.
We will be communicating important updates to you via weekly emails until the in-class component begins. This week’s email provides more detailed information on the virtual training component of the Institute.
Training Components

Training Phase Dates Description
Virtual January 14-February 10
A four-week online training period that provides a baseline understanding of 21st century skills and project learning.
In-class February 26-29 An opportunity for you to network with your peers in person for four days and develop a 21st century learning project that you will facilitate for your students upon your return to school.
Implementation March 1-June 1 Back at school, you will have 90 days to facilitate your 21st century learning project with students. You will have the support of project learning experts and your peers.

Facilitator and Adjunct

You have been assigned to a “cadre,” a small team of educators with whom you will explore and discuss topics throughout training. Each cadre is led by a facilitator who is a project learning and 21st century skills expert. The facilitator is supported by an Oracle Education Foundation adjunct (adjunct). Your facilitator and adjunct will guide your participation during the virtual training and will host several collaboration opportunities during the month using Think.com. Please feel free to contact your facilitator and adjunct with curriculum questions at any time.

Attached is a list of the two facilitators and their cadres. Find your name in the list to identify your cadre and facilitator.

Virtual Training Expectations

You can expect to spend between 8-10 hours per week on curriculum, practices, and assessments. It is essential that you successfully complete each week’s virtual training so that you are prepared for the intensive in-class training to follow.

The goal of the virtual training will be to develop the basis for your 21st century learning project. You will investigate your own curriculum to look for areas to integrate 21st century skills into your students’ learning, and you will develop your ThinkPlan, the planning document that will help you design your learning project.

System Access

During virtual training, you will use two different systems to complete each lesson:

1) Oracle iLearning: Access this system for all curricular materials including lessons, practices and additional resources. You can view information on accessing this site in the document entitled Oracle iLearning User Guide.

2) Think.com: Access this system to complete the practice activities associated with the lessons. You should already have enrolled and successfully received your Think.com username and password by this time (please contact us immediately if you still need assistance).
